Thanks to COVID-19, the Kaminski House Museum is currently closed to the public. We thought that this would be an excellent time to have our staff work on an inventory of the museum’s collection. In addition to updating our collection database, we are are doing condition reports on all of our objects. Of course, any time you do projects like this, you often come across some interesting finds.
Today, while inventorying the contents of Harold Kaminski’s bedroom, we had a chance to take a closer look at his humidor ( a container for cigars or tobacco). Based upon various photographs of Harold Kaminski, we know that he enjoyed cigars. Unfortunately the glass container holding tobacco that sits inside the lovely wooden box is cracked and its lid is chipped, but it still has a small amount of tobacco inside it.
We also found a pair of traditional Japanese Tabi socks in one of the drawers of Harold Kaminski’s bureau. These split-toed socks or foot coverings were made to be worn with Japanese stye thonged sandals.
